Thru Toddlers

By admin

How can I get my 14 month old to sleep thru the night in her crib?

My baby will wake up every night about 2 or 3 times to get out of her crib. I give her the pacifer and she will lay down fo about 15 minutes and will be back up. So i will put her in the bed with me and she will go right back to sleep. Could it be time for toddler bed?

She isn't sleeping because you keep giving into her. This is the 5 step process my doctor gave me and it worked.

First night if she cries then go in her room, pick her up and comfort her, tell her it is time to sleep and put her back down and leave the room. Do not spend more than 10 minutes in there. You can repeat this up to 5 times in one night but after that you let her cry.

Second night go in DO NOT pick her up but you can rub her back or hug her while in her crib. Tell her it is time to sleep and leave. You can repeat this 5 times as well then let it go.

Third night, go in do not go near the crib, stand across the room and talk to her, tell her it is time to sleep and leave. Repeat up to 5 times.

Fourth night only stand in the door way, do not touch her but talk to her, give same speech and leave.

Fifth night do not open the door. Tell her from the hallway that it is time to sleep.

This worked for me and 3 of my friends now. It feels mean and is hard to hear your child cry but you can not let them decide the rules or she will be sleeping in your bed forever.

Hope this helps good luck.

Oh and I would not recommend the toddler bed at that age unless she is climbing out of her crib and poses a danger to herself. If you don't have control of her in her crib, imagine if she were mobile and able to leave the room on her own or even if she roamed around her room. My nephew used to pull the drawers out of his dresser and it fell and almost landed on him. Keep them in the crib as long as you can granted they stay in it safely.
