I have stopped my babies usage of her pacifier, but now she does not take very long naps. Any suggestions?
The Dr. recommended that we take my 6 month old off the pacifier. After researching it, I felt the best way to get her off is to stop cold turkey. She is a very sound sleeper and usually sleeps about 10 hours a night with a couple of long naps during the day and maybe one or two very small cat naps. Since we have taken away the binkie she has continued to sleep well at night, but she is not sleeping well during her naps. She is waking up after about 20-30 minutes. I try to let her cry it out for a little while, but then I think maybe she is just not tired. As the day goes on it becomes very clear that she needs a longer nap. I don't know if I should just keep going without the binkie and hope that she starts napping better without it or if I should give in and give it to her during nap times so that she will rest better.
Soothers or any type of sleeping prop - rocking, nursing to sleep, etc... are really about what you are willing to deal with. I guess the problem sometimes arises when babies are dependent on certain things to sleep and the parents aren't happy with that. Do what works for you. Some people use soothers with their babies only for sleeping (as opposed to being plugged all day). She will obviously need to give it up at some point, but it's up to you. If it's between a soother and crying it out, I would pick soother.
Keep in mind that babies change their sleeping patterns all the time too and things are constantly shifting. Growth spurts, teething, milestones, etc... can affect sleep in different ways and she just might be making adjustments.
