Why are Gerber jars of Spaghetti all of a sudden missing the plastic seal?
I have bought my son SEVERAL jars of Gerber spaghetti over time. Now, all of a sudden, they NO LONGER have the plastic seal around the jar (like the rest of the jarred food, including lasagna!) ..
WHY is this?
I'm just curious because I didn't buy it for a while because I thought it was an 'error' .. then I noticed that ALL the stores that sold the Gerber jarred spaghetti no longer had the plastic seal.
I'm just wondering WHY this is?
(the jar does still POP upon opening, so I know it hasn't been tampered with, it's just missing the plastic seal.)
Maybe it's an attempt to reduce packaging materials. The plastic seal doesn't really give any more protection since they have the "pop seals" on the lids. Most of it's safety function is mental. It's kind of like buying a jar of spaghetti sauce. Having a plastic seal around it isn't going to make much of a difference as far as it's safety goes. One of my favorite brands of yogurt started doing something similar. They used to be covered with a foil top and then a plastic lid like Pringles are, but they've stopped using the plastic lids.
