Cup Insert

By admin

Can I use a condom as a menstrual cup-like thing?

I could unravel the condom around, say, a thin phallic object and insert it into my vagina with part of the closed tip of the condom sticking out and the rim part inside near the cervix.
I might want to do this to find out how much blood I lose during a heavy-flow day. The condom would probably fall out, though, and this experiment would fail.
Has anyone ever done this or thought about this, and will it catch blood and stay like a menstrual cup?

No, that will never work. A condom is much too soft and it won't stay in. It wouldn't even stay open to catch the flow properly.

I suggest that you buy a package of Instead Softcups if this is just a one-time experiment. But I've heard that it's hard to remove them while keeping the blood inside, because they are rather shallow and need to be squeezed sideways during removal. A bit like getting a filled kiddie pool through a narrow doorway.

The real thing, a durable menstrual cup like a Lunette, Miacup, Ladycup, Meluna, Mooncup, Fleurcup, Shecup or Divacup, would make this experiment much easier. But it's more of an investment.
If you think there is any chance that you'll like the cup and keep using it, just because it's so comfortable and convenient (and they are!) then I'd say it's worth it.

Of course, you can also weigh your used tampons.
